Javon Taylor

Aux. Keyboardist of The Higher Level Band

Javon Taylor's passion for music was nurtured from an early age, growing up in a musical family. His father, a pastor on the island of Exuma, The Bahamas, introduced Javon to the world of music through the church, where he first developed his love for drumming. Recognizing his natural talent, his parents enrolled him in weekly piano lessons, where his skill quickly became evident. Javon earned several National Arts Festival awards for his solo piano performances in 1996 and 1997, further solidifying his musical promise.

Javon’s academic journey began at L.N. Coakley Secondary School in Exuma, where he graduated with honors in 2005 and was honored as "Head Boy." During his secondary education, Javon faced a significant setback when a leg injury prevented him from playing the drums for an extended period. Rather than being discouraged, he channeled his energy into honing his piano skills. His newfound focus on the piano allowed him to share his talent with his church community, where his family and congregation encouraged his growth. Over time, Javon’s musical prowess became widely recognized, and he became a prominent name in music across the island.

After completing high school, he pursued a Banking Certification Program at The Bahamas Institute of Financial Services, graduating between 2006 and 2011. Despite his success in banking, Javon’s true passion remained in music, where he mastered a range of instruments, including piano/keyboard, Hammond organ, drums, and bass guitar. His musical talents and leadership abilities were further recognized with the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Outstanding Male Award in 2005.

In 2009, Javon relocated to New Providence to further his musical career. His journey led him to collaborate with highly skilled musicians such as Wallace Taylor, Derek Moss, Marvin Sands, and John-Dennis Stewart, who played pivotal roles in his development as a musician. Drawing from their mentorship, Javon expanded his musical knowledge and honed his craft. His versatile talent, work ethic, and passion for music enabled him to gain a reputation in The Bahamas' music scene, where he explored a wide range of genres and musical styles.

Today, Javon has had the opportunity to work with some of the most renowned local and international artists, bands, and entities, including Miranda Curtis, Christian Massive, Sherwin Gardiner, Simeon Outten, Kevin McKenzie, MDEEZ, Ronnie Butler, Ira Storr, Geno D, Dillon "D-MAC" McKenzie, Elon Moxey, Stevie S, Veronica Bishop, Kirk "KB" Bodie, Funky D, Puzzle, Julien Believe, Wendi & Dyson Knight, Bodine, Avvy, Patrice Murrell, Blaudy, Stileet, Shabach, The Essence Band, Ira Storr & The Spank Band, The Higher Level Band, and many others.

Currently, Javon serves as the musical director of The All for One Band, auxiliary keyboardist/organist for Transformation Ministries International, and auxiliary keyboardist for The Higher Level Band. His passion for music continues to drive him, as he dedicates much of his time to learning, composing, and refining his craft. Javon dreams of one day releasing his own music, performing internationally, and being recognized on a global stage. In January 2022, Javon had the honor of representing The Bahamas at The Dubai Expo 2020 National Day ceremonies, fulfilling his dream of performing Bahamian music on a world stage.

Looking to the future, Javon aspires to share his journey with the world as an inspiration to others. Through his story of overcoming humble beginnings, he hopes to show that passion, practice, perseverance, and perspective can unlock unimaginable opportunities.
