John Stewart
Co-Leader and Lead Keyboardist of The Higher Level Band
Born on September 23, 1978, in Nassau, Bahamas, John-Dennis Fraser Stewart II, known professionally as John Stewart and affectionately as JD, is a multifaceted musician and entrepreneur with a career spanning gospel, secular, and international music. His parents, Pastor Alfred and Jacqueline Stewart, were instrumental in fostering his early interest in music, and from a young age, JD displayed a natural talent for the arts. Growing up with access to pianos at his godmother’s and grandmother’s homes, JD’s musical curiosity was nurtured, leading to private music lessons that eventually sparked a lifelong passion for music.

JD’s mother, Jackie, enrolled him in lessons with Overseer E. Randy Fraser, the Minister of Music at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Kemp Road, where he honed his skills in gospel music—a foundation that would define much of his career. Initially pursuing a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication at The College of the Bahamas, JD soon shifted his focus to music after realizing his true calling. He completed an Associate of Arts in Music at The College of the Bahamas and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Composition with an emphasis in Technology from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2005.

JD’s professional journey began in 1999 when he worked as a Sales Representative at Forsythe’s Communications. His passion for music, however, soon led him to take on various roles in church ministries. He served as the Director of Creative Arts, Worship & Media Ministries at New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Nassau, a position he still holds today. Over the years, JD has also established himself as a sought-after freelance musician, clinician, and music director, playing for renowned artists and performing at major events both locally and internationally. He was a key member of Ira Storr & The Spank Band, where he served as Keyboardist, Vocalist, and Music Director from 2009 to 2019. In 2019, he co-founded The Higher Level Band, continuing his role as keyboardist, vocalist, and music director.

In addition to his musical endeavors, JD is a successful entrepreneur. He founded BodyRight Fitness Club in 2012, a thriving fitness initiative that started as a church health program and has since grown into a prominent boot camp in New Providence. The club emphasizes health, wellness, and lifelong fitness through a range of classes and nutrition plans. JD also serves as the CEO of JS Productions, his own production company, further expanding his influence in both music and business.

Throughout his career, JD has had the privilege of working with an impressive roster of artists and performers. His collaborations include internationally recognized figures such as BeBe Winans, Kim Burrell, and Donnie McClurkin, as well as prominent Bahamian artists like Baha Men, Phil Stubbs, D-Mac, and many others. JD has played a significant role in events such as the Bahamas Independence Celebrations, the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival, and various gospel music workshops. He has also worked with several choirs and ensembles, including The Bahamas National Gospel Choir, The Bahamas National Children’s Choir, and the Gospel Music Workshop of America: Bahamas Chapter.

JD’s musical journey reflects his commitment to faith, music, and health, and he continues to inspire others through his work. His dedication to excellence and his passion for empowering others has made him a respected figure in both the music industry and the fitness community.
